Elastix is an asterisk-based linux appliance that integrates the best tools available into a single, easy-to-use interface. It also adds its own set of utilities and allows for the creation of third party modules.

Jose will discuss how Elastix differs from other Asterisk-based distributions, and the road map for the Elastix project.

Jose will be running a 'getting started' workshop on Elastix.

  • A laptop capable of running vmware player
  • Associated cables for power and networking

This Month, Jim Van Meggelen will be giving an introductory talk on the Y.A.T.E (Yet Another Telephony Engine) project. Jim will go over the architecture, the very different way that YATE deals with dialplan, and, if all goes well, demonstrate the very powerful conferencing engine.

This month we welcome back one of the founders of TAUG, Shidan Gouran, to share with us his experiences working with Asterisk to create a small business appliance. Shidan will guide us through what he set out to do when co-founding Jazinga Inc. Why he chose to create an embedded Asterisk appliance and what challenges had to be overcome to be successful.

This month, Chris Chen will be giving a demonstration of many of the features
of FreeSWITCH which Mike Jerris talked about last month. He will take us
through his setup, which includes googletalk, conference, sip endpoints, sip
trunks, exchange 2007 um integration, asterisk server interconnections, flite
tts, and pocketsphinx ASR, among other things.

He will also be demonstrating some of the advanced SIP features, such as BLF,
SLA/BLA, SIP presence, simple messaging, intercom, ring groups, call
